On our quest to find you the best product available, we discovered Aeratis - a great PVC Porch Flooring Product that we now stock. In fact, we liked this product so much, we had it installed on our back porch at the lumber yard. Our Aeratis Porch Flooring display is located on the back porch of 1005 Sherman Avenue, just west of our beautiful decking display. It features the following colors - Redwood and Weathered, as well as the following trim profiles - quarter-round, half-round nosing, ogee nosing and chamfer nosing. Make sure to have your customers stop over and check out this beautiful, durable, Class A fire rated porch flooring!

Also, ask us about the Aeratis Buck-a-Board Rebate Program, which offers builders a $1 per board rebate for every porch board you tear up and replace with Aeratis.

Roof Step Flashing

Weather is a relentless bully. It seems to focus its stormy strength on a home's most vulnerable areas, attacking over and over again until rain and moisture infiltrates, and eventually damages the home. Because a home's roof takes the brunt of the attack, it's critical to protect vulnerable areas of the roof against the elements, especially rainfall.

The most vulnerable areas of a roof are where the sloped roof meets a vertical wall, like the wall of a dormer window, or where a garage attaches to the two-story section of the house. If no water management strategies have been applied at the roof-to-wall transition, water can enter the home at this area, which can cause serious damage. Wet building materials can lead to mold growth, known to cause respiratory problems, and can lead to wood rot, which creates structural concerns.

New Energy Codes

U.S. homes are being built to higher standards of energy efficiency. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is working to improve the energy efficiency of buildings through new technologies and better building practices. Energy-efficient buildings improve lives by saving consumers money, lessening the demand for fossil fuels, decreasing the need for new power generation, and reducing environmental emissions.

The International Code Council (ICC) makes sure that the home construction industry is using new, energy-efficient best practices. The council periodically regulates the quality of new home construction and updates the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Because of new advancements, the ICC periodically changes residential codes. According to the DOE, many of these changes make complying with the new code easier for the builder. But it's still the builder's responsibility to stay up-to-date and educated about these changes.

Your Questions Answered!

Q: Any suggestions for a product that will protect the wood floors of my rehab from paint and dust?
A: We suggest using Red Rosin Paper, which is a heavy-duty kraft paper used primarily in the commercial and residential construction industry as temporary and disposable protection of floors and cabinets against foot traffic, paint, and wall texture drippings. This environmentally friendly paper is manufactured from 100% recycled fibers, and it is Made In America.

New Product!
Cortex Concealed Fastening System

The Cortex Concealed Fastening System, made by FastenMaster, is a great product for concealing the heads of your deck screws on composite decking (Trex, TimberTech & Azek). Some great features of this product are:

Fast and Easy - the deck boards are fastened the same way as a traditional deck
Strong Connection - it offers the highest level of board to joist connection and deck racking strength
Cost Effective - less expensive than virtually any other hidden fastening system
Fully Tested - all Cortex components have been fully tested and are guaranteed

Easy Installation Instructions:

Using your standard drill and the Cortex Setting Tool, drive the Cortex fastener to the preset level below the deck surface. It is important that the Cortex screw is driven perpendicular to the deck, with two screws per joist. The setting of the Cortex screw creates a cored-out hole in the deck surface. Place the Cortex Engineered Plug into the hole with the deck surface side up. Gently tap the plug into the cored-out hole until the plug is flush with the deck surface.

Applications:
Evanston Lumber stocks color matches for Azek - Clay and also for Trex - Gray, Saddle and Madeira, but we can special order any color you need!
